Filey and District u3a
September 2026 Newsletter
I sincerely hope that you all enjoyed our glorious summer weather, and have come back from
whatever you have done fully refreshed and ready to participate in some more u3a activities. Your
committee have been trying real hard to come up with some new ideas for you to enjoy and I hope
that you are able to take full advantage. I know that, unlike previous years, most groups have
continued to operate during summer and our various group organisers are to thank for their work.
At the group organisers “thank you” meeting, it was stressed that due to the unfortunate event that
occurred at another u3a our insurance company now requires registers and risk assessments to be
kept, however, the main object of the meeting was to encourage organisers to look into the
possibility of the need for a second group to be formed and encouraged.
The Golf club has now put their social membership fees up to £50.00 per annum, this is now a
requirement of all persons who participate in one of our groups, who use the golf club facilities. If
some of you are not happy with this and are having second thoughts, think that maybe you and
your friends could start up another group at another venue. Your committee will be only happy to
help in locating you.
Our next Monthly Meeting will be at “ Filey Methodist Church” September 24th 10.00am meet for
10.30 start. Your speaker this month will be
“Sal Cook” talking about “Boats, Bikes and Birds”
This is a welcome return for Sal, whom, those of you who have heard her before will know, is a
very entertaining and knowledgeable speaker
Following the lack of support for the Tea Dance, it has been renamed a Disco, as the attendees
enjoyed a bop to Motown and 60’s records. So after your lunch on Monday 5th October come on
down and dance it off. Doors open 2pm no partners are required Entry for members wil be £3.00
and non members £5.00, tea and/or coffee £1.00. The venue will be the Masonic Halls, Rutland
Street to the rear of the Glasshouse and Charlottes. If you wish to be a D.J. for this fun event
please feel free to contact Dorothy our secretary.
