These guys, from the Filey area, entertain with shanties and other types of maritime songs. They sing unaccompanied, need very little by the way of setting up, don’t need PA , and can therefore sing virtually anywhere.

They know how to work an audience and offer sets of about 40 minutes. They have a large repertoire and so can offer a varied programme including some you will know and can join in with plus some you don’t know and possibly some you will never want to hear again !! Many of the seafarers’ original lyrics can be quite “earthy” but The Ramshackle Shantymen try to judge what their audience can cope with.

The Ramshackle Shantymen are experienced entertainers who have appeared at local folk clubs, pub venues, Whitby and Scarborough Sea Fests and Filey Folk Festival. They perform at local charity gigs and fund raising events and have also been featured on BBC TV.

Cap'n Ramshackle (Robert) started the Filey Folk Club and the Filey Folk Festival over 20 years ago. He also still appears as a solo performer.
